On the day we left our house sit in Boerne, we decided to camp locally and found a privately owned campground and RV resort called “Al’s Hideaway” in Pipe Creek, TX. It was an interesting combination, with semi-permanent RV sites and a primitive campground (no electric or water on site). It did, however, have a pavilion with bathrooms, showers, and even a kitchen that was available to both RVers and campers.

We settled in for the evening on a site next to a very dry river. We were the only campers there, so it was private and peaceful and quiet…until it wasn’t. We thought we’d found a real gem, until the dogs started barking. We’re not talking about just a couple of dogs…rather, 50 or more dogs all barking, howling, and yipping at the same time. And not just for a few minutes, but off and on for hours. Apparently, there is a dog kennel on the property.
We made it through the night. But, it certainly explained why the campground part of the “resort” was not busy. We packed up the next morning and hit the road!
