The next two days, July 31 and August 1, were “at sea” days. You might wonder what we do all day at sea. There are many activities planned for passengers: card games, trivia games, sing-alongs, pickleball tournaments, lectures, and classes in fitness, watercolor, bridge, and line dancing…just to name a few.
We attend some of the lectures, which are usually based on the ports coming up. We use the fitness center every day and we continue to attend the Tai Chi class every morning. There is a duo called “Vivace” made up of a piano and cello whose concert we attend pretty much every day as well.
One of the evening shows was notable. The performer is a pianist, whose name is Elliot Finkel. He is amazing and does classical music but includes songs from Broadway shows and popular tunes. His style is a bit like Liberace or Emil Pandolfi, and he has an excellent back-up band. He is a storyteller with quite a history as a New Yorker whose dad was in the original cast of Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway. As a child in the 60s, his mom took him to a Broadway show every week. Can you imagine?
On sea days we walk outside on the promenade to get fresh air, and we spend time reading in quiet places we find on the ship. I read books downloaded on my Kindle and Dave picks books up from the onboard library. All in all, it’s relaxing and just stimulating enough. We find ourselves napping occasionally because of all the time changes. For example, it’s about noon as I’m writing this blog. I think it’s about 5 a.m. in Wisconsin, so we’ve lost several hours over the past couple of weeks.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s lunch time!
Next stop: Norway.
