The Texas hill country is among my favorite places on earth. We have had several house sits in this part of Texas and they never disappoint. It’s a relatively dry part of the country with rolling hills, a smattering of cacti, and lots of small squatty oak trees. The springtime is stunning when the bluebonnets are in bloom, the summer is hot and dry, and the fall and winter are cool (warm days, cold nights).
This is a first-time sit for us, with a German Shepherd/Malinois mix named Brandon. He’s a big, gentle guy who loves chasing squirrels and hanging around near his people.

The home is beautiful and nestled on a few acres acres in the country between Boerne and San Antonio. There is a lovely pool, but the weather is a bit cold for swimming. We have had a couple of days in the mid 70s, though, and have enjoyed lunch on the patio a few times. We’ve also gone into Boerne to walk the Cibolo Creek Trail and wander around the shops.
By the way, on our way to Boerne from our last campsite, we stopped in Fredericksburg — another favorite place of mine, with great shops of all kinds, wineries, and the best peaches ever (in season, of course). We stopped at one of our favorite shops (where you can taste about a hundred different products) and bought some jams. We also happened upon Santa and the Missus and had our photo taken!

We head for home tomorrow (12/12) morning. It’s around a 20-hour drive and we’re driving into some extreme cold temperatures. It should be interesting to see how the hybrid Highlander does in the cold!
I’m really excited to get home and put up my Christmas tree…
