2025-09-26 Family Time at Chippewa Campground

We had a great weekend camping with Jeff, Holly, and little Rorik at the Chippewa Campground in the Chequamegon National Forest. Dave and I arrived and set up the camper on Thursday and the family joined us on Friday night. The campsite looks a lot more exciting when you add a couple of tents!

We had a nice campsite, right next to the playground, so Rorik enjoyed the slide and the swings. We also walked the quarter mile to the beach and spent some time fishing. A few perch (Holly caught the most) and one bass were caught, enjoyed, and then released to enjoy the fall colors and grow bigger for next year. The water in September is a bit “cool”, but that didn’t stop Jeff and Rorik from getting in the lake – at least up to the knees (maybe further).

As usual, one of the best parts of camping is hanging out by the fire in the evenings. In a national forest, you can forage for dead wood to burn, so it makes for an interesting fire. We roasted marshmallows, feasted on Smores, and Jeff read to us from the camping book Rorik brought with him.

There’s nothing like camping in the fall. The leaves are turning colors and starting to fall. The nights are cool and the sky is full of stars. And, we enjoyed it all with family. What more could you ask for?!?
