Aunt Ida McDonald’s Lemon Torte

Yummy lemony cake with sweet-tart glaze. This is a cake I remember eating when I was a little girl. I have made it several times as an adult, and it's always just as good as it was way back when!

Equipment

  • 1 cake pan 9 x 13
  • 1 large mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 c oil
  • 3/4 c water
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 pkg lemon jello
  • 1 pkg cake mix regular size box of white or lemon cake mix
  • 2 c powdered sugar for glaze
  • 1/2 c lemon juice for glaze

Instructions

  • Beat eggs until foamy.
  • Disregard package instructions for cake…instead mix in all but the last two ingredients in the order given.
  • Pour in greased 9×13 pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes, then pick all over the top with a fork and you are ready for the glaze!

To make the glaze:

  • Combine powdered sugar and lemon juice and cook until well-mixed (almost boiling)
  • Pour glaze evenly over cake
  • Bake another 5 minutes or until juice disappears, leaving a glaze
  • Serve with whipped cream!
