Aunt Ida McDonald’s Lemon Torte
Yummy lemony cake with sweet-tart glaze. This is a cake I remember eating when I was a little girl. I have made it several times as an adult, and it's always just as good as it was way back when!
Servings 8
Equipment
- 1 cake pan 9 x 13
- 1 large mixing bowl
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- 3/4 c oil
- 3/4 c water
- 1/2 t salt
- 1 pkg lemon jello
- 1 pkg cake mix regular size box of white or lemon cake mix
- 2 c powdered sugar for glaze
- 1/2 c lemon juice for glaze
Instructions
- Beat eggs until foamy.
- Disregard package instructions for cake…instead mix in all but the last two ingredients in the order given.
- Pour in greased 9×13 pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
- Let cool for 10 minutes, then pick all over the top with a fork and you are ready for the glaze!
To make the glaze:
- Combine powdered sugar and lemon juice and cook until well-mixed (almost boiling)
- Pour glaze evenly over cake
- Bake another 5 minutes or until juice disappears, leaving a glaze
- Serve with whipped cream!
